Is there anybody who doesn’t feel happy on seeing the first storks in the spring? Here at EVN Bulgaria we also like storks very much and protecting them is important to us.
Our longest standing initiative in support of biodiversity is the conservation of the white stork population in Southeast Bulgaria. This consists of protecting stork nests built on EVN electricity poles. We install standardised metal platforms that lift the nest to a safe distance from the electrified parts. From the launch of the initiative in 2009 to the end of 2023, we made more than 3,440 stork nests safe throughout Southeast Bulgaria.
